When it comes to my baby, safety is not something I will compromise on. Before I purchased any baby gear for my little girl, I read reviews and checked out safety ratings. It took me months to weed through all the items and find what I thought was the best for my little girl. I wanted a car seat that would last us from rear facing to front facing, and although I had her in an infant car seat, I wanted the option to place her in a regular car seat. In my search, Sunshine Kids car seats came up as having one of the highest safety ratings, but I knew little about the company. Now Sunshine Kids has revamped their car seat and changed their name to Diono, but one thing has stayed the same, the quality and safety of their products.
Why I love the RadianRXT car seat? It is the ONLY car seat you will need – you can even ditch the infant car seat if you choose. You can use it for babies from 5-45 pounds in the rear facing position and 20-80 pounds in the forward facing position. Once you think your little one has outgrown the RadianRXT, it converts to a booster seat for children up to 120 pounds! Now THAT’S a versatile car seat!
When I compared the Radian to my old car seat, the RadianRXT was a bit heavier. Instead of using plastics (which break upon impact) Diono uses a steel alloy frame and includes a 5 point harness. Two of my favorite features, aside from safety, are the SuperLATCH and the folding option. I always had a hard time unbuckling the LATCH in my nieces car seat. After testing out seats myself at my local baby store, I knew I was going to choose a car seat that included the easy to install SuperLATCH. The SuperLATCH snaps in with just a push and releases with a button. While the folding option isn’t a safety feature, I like that when the seat is not in use or if you are using it for airplane travel, you can fold it up so it takes up less space.
The Radian is the highest rear facing car seat. There is currently a new law underway that may change state regulations to keep babies rear facing until two years old.
With all these awesome features, what is there NOT to like about the RadianRXT? I’ll be honest, the car seat cover is a little difficult to remove. Removing the cover is an important feature for me because I have a child that vomits in the car. So far, we haven’t had an incident in this seat- but the material is easy to wipe down, so hopefully we won’t have a problem.
True Story: When my UPS guy dropped off the car seat, he asked where he could purchase one, or three of them. He has triplets who were outgrowing their infant seats. He had never heard of Diono and asked me to give him a quick review once I tried it out. He was interested in the picture displayed on the box that shows THREE Diono RadianRXT seats in a row in the backseat of a car. The RadianRXT is super trim and has a lot less bulk as compared to other seats. I told him to check out BuyBuyBaby and within a week, he was the proud owner of three Diono seats!
Retailing at $339, the RadianRXT may seem to hold a high price ticket. Being that you only need this one seat for the entire span of your child’s car seat days, I think it is actually a bargain! You can connect with Diono on Facebook and Twitter.
