Making your home as safe as possible is a top priority but did you know there are many simple things you can do to make it even safer? Here are our top ideas to improve your home safety and security.
Upgrade your locks
The locks in your home are probably pretty good, but what if they could be better? It might be time to have a look at what is protecting your home and changing it to something a bit stronger. Even internal doors can be fitted with a Mul T Lock so even if someone gets through the external doors, you can make it a lot harder for them to get out of the kitchen.
Doorbells
If you are home alone and the doorbell rings, it could be a serial killer, because that is how 1990s horror movies started. Although there is a good chance it is that pizza that you ordered, you can never be too sure. Having a doorbell with a camera allows you to see who it is on the other side before you open the door.
Cameras
Security cameras are becoming cheaper and easier to install (just look at our point above) so now is a great time to get a system installed. Modern systems can be fitted to alarms and connected to the police, so if you spot someone around your property, you can alert the police before they can get inside. Cameras are included in a lot of other security measures, and most of them can be connected to the internet too.
Alarms
This point certainly fits into the one we have already listed, however, there are different types of alarms that we would like to draw your attention to. House alarms can be attached to your house, but what about when you are out and about? Having a personal alarm can be a lifesaver, especially if you are a woman out by herself. There are apps that you can download but the old fashioned wrist alarm that you can yank is the best bet.
Lighting
If there is one thing that can get rid of unwanted lurkers, it is a light system. Floodlights and automatic lights are a great way to light up your property and ensure that no one can creep around in the darkness. These are great for the garden if the kids want to play in the dark but they are even better at keeping burglars at bay. Most of them are easy to install and have an option for motion detectors and cameras.
Timers
If you are out and about a lot, you may need to add some timers to lights to help give the appearance that someone is home. Sometimes this is all you need, the impression that someone is home. However, you should use timers along with other security measures. Timers are great during the winter because you can even set them up to come on before you come home from work so you don’t need to come home to a dark house.
