If, like most of the world’s population, you are currently having to stay indoors as much as possible to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, then you are probably finding yourself having to adjust to a new way of living. Most of us have never spent this amount of time at home in one stretch before, and it is certainly something that requires adjustment and care. In fact, to look at things as positively as possible, it is also an opportunity to get back to basics in a way, and you might find yourself wanting to do that when it comes to the homestead too. This is a great chance to keep your home in better order than ever before, so let’s take a look at how you might want to do that during the current lockdown phase.
Sort Out All The Clutter
Now that you are home all the time, you might have noticed that you have a lot of belongings lying around which you don’t necessarily need, and if you do feel that way then you are going to want to do something about it. This is a simple process, and yet one which you might at first find difficult. One of the main reasons that most of us struggle to get rid of clutter is because we become emotionally attached to items, even if you never use them and they just take up space. It is time to be a little more strict with yourself: go through everything you own and ask yourself whether you have used it in the past twelve months. If the answer is no, that’s something to get rid of. See if anyone in your area has any use for it, or if a charity could take it. Otherwise, find somewhere to recycle it if possible.
Once you start sorting out all the clutter in your home, you are going to be amazed at the kind of space that it opens up for you, not just physically but mentally. Having a clearer home tends to also mean that you have a clearer head, and it is this which is the main reason you should be thinking about doing this. The more effectively and ruthlessly you declutter your home, the better you are going to feel at the end of it.
Carry Out A Deep Clean
It is also a very good time to be thinking about carrying out a deep clean of your entire home, as you probably have the hours spare to do so. If you are keen to try and get your home back to its best possible condition, then a deep clean is going to be an essential part of this. It’s something that you can spend whatever time you want on, so don’t feel that you have to do it all in one day. Instead, you could simply make a point of doing a little here and there, until eventually the whole house is the cleanest it has been in years.
The first thing to do here is to get hold of some essential cleaning supplies, including a broom and dustpan set and some cleaning wipes. Make sure that you have got something for each area that you are going to want to clean: window cleaner is important too, as is oven cleaner and so on. Bleach spray is useful for many parts of the home as well, although you need to take care where you spray it and on what kind of surfaces. Nonetheless, it is helpful in keeping the place clean.
Then it’s a case of dividing the home up into sections and going deep into each section as much as you can before moving on to the next. It is best to do it this way, rather than the whole home at once, as you are much more likely to actually deep clean it, rather than get tired and just move on to the next bit. If you know that today you are merely going to clean the living room, then you can put all of your energy into really deep cleaning it as well as you possibly can.
After a week or so, you should have a sparkling home. It will then be much easier to keep on top of keeping the home clean, as you will just need to do top-up cleaning every week to ensure that it is not going to get too dirty or untidy. All in all, it’s one of the best things to be doing at home right now.
Tidy The Garden
If you are lucky enough to have a garden, you will want to make a point of tidying it as best as you can, so that you are looking after it properly and you can use it more often as it is intended to be used. If you are always trying to keep on top of it, then the lockdown is a great opportunity to ensure that you are going to sort it out once and for all, and it’s something that you should seriously think about right now.
Where to start with the garden? In all likelihood, you will want to begin with some of the more routine things, such as trimming the lawn if you have one, and ensuring that it is generally tidy. Then it’s a good idea to cut back any perennials that you have growing there, so that they are going to be able to remain there without overgrowing. You might want to look into planting something new to help give the garden a fresher, more beautiful look as well, even if it is a new tree or something of that sort.
Once you have done all that, your garden is already going to look much better, and you can start to enjoy it all the more. This is going to be an important part of keeping the home in order during lockdown, so make sure that you do not overlook it.
