Despite people giving you unsolicited advice during and after your pregnancy, there’s so many important topics that are left out. For example- no one told me that I would need my maternity jeans for months after giving birth because my hips widened so much, and it would take time for them to go back. They also didn’t tell me that regardless of whether your baby has a great latch or not, your nipples will hurt during the first two weeks of nursing. Oh, and speaking of nursing, even after your body has healed and you almost feel like your old self again, your body changes. Until I stopped nursing my kids, some things never really did go back to normal. I retained the last 10 pounds of pregnancy weight, didn’t get my period, and experienced something that no one ever tells you – vaginal dryness. There’s a reason they say you can’t get pregnant while you are breastfeeding (which is a total myth) and that’s because you simply may not want your partner near you! Aside from being over-touched all day long from these little people you brought into the world, your body has changed and some discomfort may happen.
I don’t know about you but my doctor didn’t warn me about these issues, nor did the well-meaning friends and aunts who felt the need to tell me every other piece of advice I never asked for. After sitting in on a discussion with other women in various stages of life, I came to realize this issue is common yet not spoken about much. ® hosted the recent Wine & Gyn event and we got to hear from 4 moms who experienced the following- a C-section and vbac, natural child birth, an OBGYN who was also a mom, and the CEO of ®, who has 2 children of her own. When it comes down to it, we are all women and after giving birth we have all gone through similar body changes. It felt nice knowing I wasn’t the only one who experienced dryness during breastfeeding and there were ways I can prep my body to feel more comfortable. Vagisil new contains moisturizing ingredients and no dyes or fragrances. As someone who is sensitive to many ingredients, I appreciated that they knew the ins and outs of our most delicate body part.
What I took away from the event is that regardless of how we gave birth or how many children we’ve had, we all shared some common ground as mothers. You can find out more about Vagisil® and their products meant to specifically address all of those post-baby-body-changes .
