Virus season is here and it’s best to be prepared before the bug invades your home! Nothing is worst than waking up in the morning, feverish, and nothing to help ease your symptoms. My girls have been sick on and off since the fall, but thankfully I always have what I need. My pantry is stocked with two humidifiers, one for each child’s room, two types of thermometers, just in case one fails me, fever reducers, and electrolyte replenishers.
I wanted to share a few of my favorite things with you this cold and flu season-
When it comes to humidifiers, I’ve tried them all. No, seriously! Cold mist, warm mist, vaporizers- you name it. I didn’t like my options. Filters can be costly and smell horrible once mold sets in. Oh, and the dreaded mold can make you sick! The Vicks Filter Free Coolmist humidifier eliminates the need for a filter and provides a quick and easy set up. Cleaning it after use is simple. The Vicks humidifier helps make breathing easier for little ones when they are sick, and prevents nasal passages from drying out when they are sick. The Vicks Filter Free Coolmist humidifier also has a slot to place Vicks cartridges to release menthol into the air to help breathing. You don’t have to use this feature, but it is there if you like to add a little scent to the air.
I must be the last person in the world who still preferred a rectal thermometer to any other type. I’ve tried ear thermometers and the forehead thermometers when they had just come out. The ear thermometers are accurate and work well, but not for a small child. My 4 year old is finally old enough that the tip of the ear thermometer fits in her ear and can give us an accurate reading, but my 1 year old is not quite there yet. Regardless, neither of them like the ear thermometer. I get it- it can feel a little weird sticking something in your ear, so we decided to give forehead thermometers another try. Our old forehead thermometer was still so new to the market when we tried it out, and was very faulty. It never gave an accurate read and we decided it wasn’t for us. When Braun came out with their new forehead thermometer, I decided it was worth a shot. They are personally my most trusted brand. Right out of the box the thermometer was easy to use. A simple swipe from the center of their forehead and down to the temple, then back up to the middle of the head is all it took to get their temps taken. Accurately. This is now our preferred method of checking the kids’ temperatures, and the kids love not getting poked! I should also mention that the backlit display is perfect for those nighttime checks!
