The family pet is a member of the family and they should be treated as such. Just as you worry about the health of your loved ones, the health of your pet is also on the top of that list. We can sometimes forget that our pets need as much love, attention, and good nutrition as any human, but with all of our running around and day to day activities it is easy to forget. If you make some solid choices regarding your pet, you can set into motion habits that will constantly keep your furry loved one in the best shape possible. Here are five ways you can keep your pet healthy and happy.
Buy Organic Food
There are a lot of organic pet foods on the market. A lot of these brands were engineered by pet nutritionists and veterinarians. The ingredients are all natural and made from real meat, vegetables, and grains. Typical dog foods are made from byproducts or chemicals that overtime may hurt your pet more than help them. A lot of the pellets are covered in powders or the wet food is made from scraps that will make your pet overweight and can destroy their teeth and gums. By switching to organic products you will be helping your animal maintain a healthy weight, maintain healthy eyesight, and maintain healthy teeth and gums.
Keep Your Pet Active
If you are an avid runner or walker, the best thing you can do for your dog is take them with you for a walk or run. This way, you can continue to work on your own exercise journey without interruption and your pet will get the exercise they need. If you are not a walker or runner then when you take your pet for their daily walk, make it a long one so that they can be as active as possible and you can be active as well. For cat owners, buy some toys for your pet that you can use to play with them so that they can run around. It’s harder to keep cats in shape, but a few minutes a day for some quick play will be great.
Use Proper Medication
There will come a time when your pet may need to take some medication. The best thing you can do for your pet is get their meds from a pet compounding pharmacy. A lot of pet owners make the mistake of giving their animals human medications, which are not good for pets. A pet compounding pharmacy will create meds that are made specifically for your pet’s species, body type, and body weight. The meds are made of natural ingredients, and they can be flavored so that you can disguise the meds in your pet’s food. Having a connection of this kind will make your pet get better faster and more healthy.
Spend Quality Time Together
Just like your own family, quality time with your pet is essential for their health and well being. Our pets depend on us, and we need to spend time with them petting them, loving them, and holding them. Doing these small acts of affection help your pet know that you care and that you love them. The interaction of touch and snuggling and cuddling will help your pet bond with you and become closer to you. When this happens, your pet will respond to you better and want to be around you more, which will make them happy and feel loved and accepted.
Make Space For Your Pet
Sometimes our homes aren’t big enough for everyone, but if you do have the space, and even if you don’t, your pet needs their own personal area that they can call their own. Animals by nature are territorial, and they need a place they can go to that they know is theirs for sleeping and for relaxing. A lot of times when we discipline our animals we tell them to go to their spot, and they are responsive because they have a place. When animals have a place they are less likely to be anxious, rowdy, and jumpy. If the home gets too loud or if there are too many people, your animal can escape to their spot and be away from everyone where they can have their own quiet time and stay grounded.
Having these few habits in place will help your pet stay happy and feel healthy for all their life, and your pet will never know the difference.
