I have been taking weekend trips with my little girl from the time she was about 6 months old. The first time we went away, I definitely over-packed, bringing along every bottle I own, enough food for a month, and just about her entire wardrobe. I didn’t know what to bring, so I thought being over-prepared was better. Well, it generally is, but this also led to a lot of frustration, not knowing if I had everything when we left, and a big disorganized mess when it was time to come back home. It took a few trips to figure out how to pack and what we actually NEEDED to bring along with us. Now I always bring along her security toy, her favorite blanket, and enough clothes for double the amount of days we are staying. I know this seems excessive, but she gets car sick and I have grown into the mentality that if she will be in the car, she will vomit. So I assume that we would need a clothing change for each ride. She doesn’t always get sick, but I still have to be prepared.
To keep her from getting car sick, we try to keep her belly full with dry foods such as crackers and rice cakes. I don’t allow her to have milk at least two hours before entering the car because I find that milk has always been the trigger in her vomiting episodes. Earth’s Best Crunchin Crackers have always been a favorite of ours for car trips and we keep them in the car at all times. They are perfect because they are a little bland for upset bellies and have a nice crunch to them. I’ve even munched on these myself when I have a sour stomach! A few of our other favorites are Pop Snax which my toddler loves to carry around and munch on, and Sunny Days Snack Bars which are great for on the go! There are a few mornings here and there where my toddler will be too stubborn to eat her breakfast before we leave the house. I find that she will readily take a Sunny Days Snack Bar because her favorite character, Big Bird is on the wrapping. They contain no hydrogenated oil, trans saturated fats, artificial flavors, colors or preservatives and come in a variety of fruit flavors.
