We took my toddler to the beach for the first time last year and she loved it! She has no concept of hot and cold weather coinciding with summer or winter, so she can’t quite understand why we couldn’t go to the beach the past few months. We have a beach house on Long Island and she begs to go every time she remembers. I can’t wait until our schedule is a little less crazy so that we can go again.
Keeping her safe at the beach involves many things: She wears sunscreen to keep her skin safe from the sun, a hat to protect her head, watershoes to protect her feet, a rashguard just in case the sunscreen isn’t enough, and of course an umbrella so that she isn’t under direct sunlight when she is playing in the sand. With all this protection you might think I’ve got it all covered. I thought I had it all covered! Until last year our umbrella flew right out of the sand. and nearly hit my husband in the back. Thankfully no one was hurt, but my husband received an earful from me after this incident. What if it hit him, or worse, what if it hit our toddler? What if someone else got hurt because of his negligence? How deep is deep enough to place an umbrella so this doesn’t happen?
I never really thought there was anything to ensure the safety of a beach umbrella besides making sure it is placed correctly in the sand. After telling my parents what happened at the beach, it turns out flyaway umbrellas are common and have actually hurt people in the past and they have witnessed a few accidents while on the beach.
So, what do you do? Do you skip on the much needed sun protection that an umbrella gives you, or do you take the chance of being impaled by your beach umbrella? (Ok, that may have sounded a bit dramatic, but it DOES happen!) How about another option? Enter the Noblo Umbrella Buddy! Now you can have some peace of mind while you are practicing safe sun!
The Noblo is a mom-invented, easy to use device that utilizes sand to keep umbrellas from flying away. You simply bring this little sack to the beach with you, fill it up with sand, attach it to the top of your umbrella, and you have yourself a safety “device” for keeping your umbrella put. Check out this video on how the Noblo works:
