The other day I was walking down the frozen aisle of the supermarket with my toddler. Something caught her eye that she just HAD to have. She kept repeating over and over= “Cookie Monster, COOKIE MONSTER!!!!” I looked to see what it was and found a freezer full of Earth’s Best Frozen Waffles with Cookie Monster on the box. When it comes to characters promoting products, I usually get annoyed that companies will use favorite television characters to market their sugary, unhealthy foods to children. Earth’s Best is one of those companies that uses familiar Sesame Street characters for good reasons- to market their HEALTHY food choices.
My toddler isn’t much of a breakfast eater which frustrates me to no end. How can you start your day without breakfast? It really is the most important meal of the day! When I saw how excited she got over the Earth’s Best Waffles with Cookie Monster, I knew that I could use this to get her to eat a healthy breakfast in the morning. I let her get the box all by herself from the freezer in the supermarket. I told her what they were and explained that she would need to eat them, otherwise Cookie Monster would end up in the garbage. She agreed that she would eat waffles for breakfast and I was curious to try the very next day.
Sure enough, when I asked my toddler what she wanted for breakfast, her usual response of “nothing, I don’t want to eat” was uttered. I reminded her of the Cookie Monster pancakes and she became very excited. My odd little toddler eats waffles in a weird manner- you see, she likes to eat them frozen. I pick and choose my battles, so when she asked for a frozen waffle, I handed one over to her and within minutes it was gone. I can feel good about giving her Earth’s Best homestyle waffles for breakfast because they are organic and made with whole grains, whole wheat flour, contain iron, zinc, and vitamin B, plus they contain no hydrogenated oils, trans saturated fat, artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. Served with a fruit, they make a wholesome, healthy, and delicious breakfast!
