I’ve been a stay at home mom for 3 years now, but before that I was a working mom. When I was looking into child care options for my daughter, I did a ton of research. Did I want a one on one nanny? Did I mind taking her to someone’s home or did I prefer to leave her in the comfort of our home? What about early childhood education centers? Did they teach or babysit? Will my child get the attention she deserves? It was overwhelming. Why shouldn’t it be- after all, I was trusting my child in the care of someone else.
I went through the same rigmarole last year when I sign my daughter up for preschool. For two years, I taught my daughter through play time. She had one on one attention from me and we did a lot of activities together, from planting an indoor garden to taking trips to the local museums, zoos, and aquarium. We attended music and dance groups, made friends, and hosted play dates. There was something missing- she needed structure. I noticed that the days she attended groups with other kids in a class setting, she was generally happier. On days we would “go with the flow” she would throw more tantrums and wouldn’t eat or sleep well. I learned really quickly that my child needed structure and enrolled her in a preschool class twice a week. She loved it and begged for more days in school. Although I think she had a great start outside of the classroom with me, I also think she enjoyed the company of other children in her class.
I’ve heard of KinderCare from other moms in our play group, and decided to check out their Open House on August 13th. For parents who value early education, making an informed decision is important and I think the Open House would be informative. This is a great opportunity to get to know what KinderCare is all about and even meet the teachers and staff. You can visit KinderCare to locate a center near you, and to schedule a tour if their Open House is not a convenient time for you.
For the first time, KinderCare is offering a Back-to-School sweepstakes where five families will be awarded a full scholarship for one calendar year of free tuition at a KinderCare or Knowledge Beginnings Center. From now until October 18, 2013, you can stop by your local KinderCare or Knowledge Center and take a tour to be entered to win one of five grand prizes.
