Cloth diapering has never been easier with all the options our there. After cloth diapering for a year, I have my favorites and know what I am looking for when it comes to choosing the cloth diapers that work best for my lifestyle. I started off with covers and inserts but quickly moved on to pockets and all in ones. I also prefer flat inserts as opposed to prefolds. My preferences work best to control leaks while also providing the trimmest and perfect fit for my little one.
I had the opportunity to try out two new BabyKicks Diapers. I have never tried BabyKicks before, so while cloth diapering wasn’t a new experience, I was new to using this brand of cloth diapers. When I received my package, the first thing I noticed was how soft the diapers and inserts were. I wanted to see how soft they remained after their recommended first few washes to prep the diapers, and I was impressed at how they held they texture, especially for hemp which is known to get harder as you wash it.
The BabyKicks Premium Pocket Diaper is an upgrade from their previous 3g style. They listened to their customers and made changes that were necessary to make their great diaper even better. Some great features of the BabyKicks Premium Diaper are the one size feature which is designed to fit babies from newborn to potty training. This makes for a VERY cost effective cloth diaper! If you have ever read my other cloth diaper reviews, then you know how much I love leg gussets! Every disposable diaper has leg gussets, why shouldn’t cloth diapers have them too? They help contain the contents of soiled diapers while also creating a more customized fit. BabyKicks leg gussets are wrapped in fleece, so you know your baby will feel comfy and remain dry. Speaking of staying dry, the inner layer of the diaper is made of super soft bamboo, which is nature’s antimicrobial layer, while the insert is made of hemp- which is known to be very absorbant. This makes a GREAT overnight diaper, even for heavy wetters!
Are you a side snap mama or do you prefer hook and loop? My preference is snaps for the overall life of the diaper, but velcro for ease of putting on and taking off. Whichever you prefer, you get to choose with the BabyKicks Premium Pocket Diaper! The Premium Pocket Diaper retails at $21.50 and comes in a rainbow of colors!
Along with revamping their old style of diapers, BabyKicks has also added a new item to their product line. The BabyKicks Basic Pocket Diaper is very similar to their Premium Pocket diaper, without some of the added bonus features. They are a one size pocket diaper that fits babies from newborn to potty training, have a waterproof outer layer, a fleece inner layer, and a super-absorbant microfiber/hemp terry liner. The liner is the magic in the diaper, as it has been tested to control leaks. You can use the diaper as a pocket or simply as a cover, so the option to stuff or not is completely up to you. The Basic diaper retails at $15.99 and comes in side snaps or velcro in many colors.
My opinion on BabyKicks Diapers – I love both styles. I prefer the BabyKicks Premium Pocket Diaper mainly because of the bamboo and hemp features. I feel that spending the extra $6 to get those features make the diaper worth it. To be completely honest, I didn’t find much of a difference in the amount of absorbency between the diapers. Both are super absorbent, trim fitting, and very soft against baby’s skin. You really can’t ask for anything more when it comes to cloth diapers!
When I started cloth diapering, I also started using cloth wipes. I invested in a cloth wipe warmer and made my own solution to keep the wipes moist. This is great for the environment, your wallet, and most of all, your baby. Our pediatrician always recommends to use a wash cloth and plain water when cleaning baby’s bottom, but convenience always gets the best of us and we reach for the disposable wipes. When cloth diapering, disposable wipes are no longer the convenient choice because as you clean baby, you still need to throw out the wipe. When you use cloth wipes, you can keep them with the diaper and throw it all in the laundry bag together! Easy, convenient, and great for baby! BabyKicks has their own line of cloth wipes which quickly became my favorite. Not for any other reason other than the softness and size. They are much bigger than the washcloths I had been using, and the oval shape really does make a difference in ergonomics when wiping baby. I use them for bath time too! BabyKicks Washies are made out of soft fleece and are gentle against baby’s skin.
