My little girls are quickly learning that while princesses seem to have the life, paving your own way is more fulfilling. While watching Disney’s Moana in the movie theater on Christmas Eve, I knew instantly it would be their new favorite movie because my girls have been obsessed with anything Polynesian since Lilo and Stitch. I love the powerful message, they love the music, and overall it’s a great movie for everyone in the family.
Moana is next in line to rule on her little island and wants to expand on her horizons, but her family, the island chief, wants things to stay the same. We learn about Maui, the demigod who conquered many feats for mankind, but also goofed along the way and now everyone is paying the price. Moana knows what needs to be done, but with her father standing in her way she finds inspiration from her grandmother.
Without giving away too much, let’s just say Disney knows how to illustrate what happens when you anger a woman the way Maui did, and we aren’t talking about Moana. After Tefiti’s heart is restored the world proves to be a better place for Moana and her island. If you haven’t seen Moana yet, you simply have to. It’s one of those must see, feel good movies.
