Now that the weather is colder, we are spending a lot more time indoors with the kids. I try to get them out as much as possible, but some days the only outing is back and forth to school. Kids need to stay active and engaged, otherwise they can get temperamental. I’m not going to lie.. adults (ahem.. me) can get that way too. Leave me indoors for too long and I get a little batty. So, I’m always looking for fun indoor activities to do with my kids when the weather doesn’t allow for outdoor fun.
Now that my oldest daughter is 4, we are able to have family fun nights complete with board games, video games, and story time. I love playing board games with her because I believe it teaches her so much more than just how to play a game. She learns patience, taking turns, and that there are rules to just about everything in life. She also learns that she can’t win at everything unless she tries hard. Our board game choices are always changing, but I decided to teach her an old favorite of mine recently, Backgammon. It is so easy to set up the game on the HP Envy Rove 20 All in One PC. It’s a full size 20 inch screen computer that thinks it’s a tablet. So, it can transport easy from one room to another, and when Family Game time takes place it can sit on the floor or the couch and lie completely flat so that everyone can sit around it. We can comfortably take turns, never having to move the computer back and forth to each player. The display is big, bright and easy to see, and the computer with Windows 8 is very easy to get around. My 4 year old can do it!
When we aren’t having family game time, I let my child explore using the Envy Rove while I make dinner. I can watch over her shoulder while she plays games with her favorite characters, all the while learning about technology, and strategy techniques. The Envy Rove is touch screen, making it easy for my little one to get to where she wants to go.
