What is your little one going to be for Halloween. I have two little girls and lucky enough to still have a say when it comes to my youngest daughter’s costume. My older daughter has grown into a very independent 4 year old that expects things a specific way. For example, when she asked to be Princess Belle for Halloween, we picked out the perfect costume together. When she wore it to a costume party, she insisted on having her hair exactly like Belle’s hair. She wouldn’t have it any other way since she was playing the role; she felt that she had to completely embrace being Belle and that included looking exactly like her.
So, on to the web I went to look at how to complete Belle’s half updo with a bun. The tutorials were very thorough, much more than I had time for, so I had to improvise.
Not too long ago I ventured on to YouTube to find out exactly what a sock bun was and how to make one. I’m so glad I stumbled onto sock buns, because they are super easy to make, look really nice, and are a perfect way to create a super easy Princess Belle hairstyle. After studying a few pictures of Princess Belle, I knew exactly my course of action. I would separate half my daughter’s hair in a pony tail (half up half down) and create a sock bun. If you aren’t sure how to make a sock bun, check out a tutorial on YouTube. I would have made one, but I didn’t have enough hands to man the camera AND make the sock bun!
Instead of creating a neat sock bun with everything tucked in and pristine, I kept her bun a bit messy and let all the extra pieces of hair cascade down the rest of her hair. Dry hair is easier to work with, but before I started, I had to get the knots out of her hair. I used Suave Kids detangling spray to easily loosen the knots in my daughter’s hair. Once her hair was easy enough to manage, I started on the bun.

Separate hair- Half up, half down:
Grab an old sock and cut off the end:
Use a small piece of sock since it is only for half an updo

How-To: Messy Monster
Have an old white coat and big glasses lying around? Create an easy, affordable, and monstrous mad scientist costume with messy hair!
- Wash hair using Suave®’s 3-in-1 Shampoo,Conditioner,and Body Wash
- Towel dry hair.
- Take a section of hair and apply Suave® Kids Cool Ocean Styling Gel. Use one hand to separate a small section of hair from the rest, then use the other hand to apply a liberal amount of gel to that section. Grasp the hair at the roots, and smooth the gel up to the tips. Hold your hand there for a moment to let it set.
- The smaller the section of the hair you grab, the smaller the spike will be. You can alternate between small and large ones.
- Pull hair in the direction you want the spike to go. To create a messier look, pull spikes in all different direction.
- Repeat these steps, using plenty of Suave® Kids Cool Ocean Styling Gel to continue sculpting all the hair.
How-To: Gatsby Getup
Find a cute, vintage-inspired headband to create an easy and adorable Gatsby-inspired Halloween costume!
- Section the crown into a triangle shape with a defined side part.
- Wrap the hair around a curling wand, moving forward, and secure each curl with a pin.
- Curl the remainder of the head (no need to pin). Remove hair clips from top and brush hair into a S-wave pattern. Take a small amount of Suave® Kids Cool Ocean Styling Gel to smooth any flyaways. Pin clips to hold it down.
- For long hair, gather strands into a low ponytail, twist into a faux bob and pin up.
- To complete the look, remove pins from the front of hair and add a stretchy headband just above the eyebrows.
