My niece is the luckiest little girl in the world! She is getting a brand new pair of Heelys for her 7th birthday and I wish someone would have purchased me a pair when I was younger. I know I could have gotten a pair for myself, but can you picture me juggling a diaper bag and a fidgety toddler while rolling around the Big Apple?
Why do I love Heelys so much? Well they are a sneaker – no, wait, they are rollerskates – no, that’s not right either. They are rollersneakers! You can use them as regular sneakers and walk with them, or you can easily pop in the wheels and skate with them. Perfect for when you are walking and want kids to pick up the pace.
I chose to get her the Heelys Hx2 thinking she would be able to keep her balance better on two wheels rather than one. They are a bit bulky, but otherwise a solid shoe. After trying them on, it was a little difficult to keep her balance. We watched the Heely’s tutorial which helped her understand how to maneuver on her new kicks. After a few trips and stumbles, she was off, enjoying her new Heelys. She thinks she will be wearing her new Heelys for the upcoming school season, but my sister has to put a ban on that one – these may not be so safe rolling through a school. (Although the shiny hard floors would make Heelys a ton of fun!)
Would I recommend them?
For children I would say “Of Course!” I think the novelty of this shoe plus the exercise factor gives this shoe and A+ in my book. These would make an awesome holiday or birthday gift, and now, I am purchasing another pair for my nephew who saw his big sister’s Heelys and wants a pair for himself.
For adults, I’m not sure. I personally would not wear them as a skating shoe, but more as a sneaker. It just doesn’t fit into my lifestyle, but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t fit into yours! Not sure if Heely’s are for your? Try on a pair at a store near you.
