This upcoming holiday season is all about electronics and smart toys. We are a very tech-driven family and love to try out the latest gadget and toys, so when we were asked to review the new Lightseekers Awakening Toy from TOMY, we were ecstatic. My 5-year-old even said it was something she’s had her eye on, which surprised me because I didn’t even know she knew what it was.
We received Mari- the blue smart action figure from the Lightseekers set and downloaded the free app from the AppStore that accompanies the figures. The Lightseekers Starter Set includes the Mari action figure, 5 Augmented Reality Trading Cards, a weapon, and a USB charger. Within a few minutes, we were set up to play and learned about the mysterious world of Tantos. This majestic world has been disrupted by evil and it’s up to you to restore balance to their world.
“The game is really fun. When you download the game you get all these different types of quests. At one point the quest you have to save a captured animal. Once you free the animal it becomes one of your pets and has special effects- like if you free a crab, you can use the pinching claws to pinch your bad guys if you need an assistant when you’re fighting other battles later on. When you scan the cards they become part of your inventory. When you’re playing the game, it’s all 3D. The character you use becomes 3D.
The action figure that comes with the set has a backpack that connects to the game. It automatically connects to the game. Let’s say you put on the sword on the figure, the player in the game will also have a sword.There are also mini-games that allow you to win extra points which can be used to purchase items for your inventory that you use to fight bad guys, or for your strength.”
Overall Lightseekers was a hit with my girls. You can get your Lightseekers Starter Set at Toys R Us.
