We have been living in our NYC home since we got married in 2007. We are fortunate to have access to the basement, which was a total
mess and needed A LOT of love. My hubby and I have been putting this project off because there was just too much going on and we agreed that when we had a baby we would tackle the basement. It has been 2 years since that conversation and we finally grabbed the bull by the horns and started to clear it out. What sparked this sudden urge to purge? Well – we are getting a brand new washer/dryer combo from Whirlpool and we needed room for a dryer. We have a washing machine in a separate room, but the ceiling was too low to stack a dryer and it was too small to house the units side by side.
So, the dryer would have a new home next to the kitchenette in the basement (not pictured). After we cleaned the mess off the floor, we realized that the floor was so badly damaged that even if we wanted to, we could not have play dates in the play room. We had an area rug which we thought would be good solution, but that didn’t really seem to cover up enough. So, off we were with a very limited budget, few ideas, and getting antsy at the thought of all the work we put into this project (with probably little payoff). A trip to home depot and a DIY project turned out into a budget friendly project and now we have a gorgeous playroom for my toddler!
Home Depot has commercial carpeting that suited our needs and fit our budget. After using credit card points, we only spent $40 to carpet about 160 sq ft. We needed to create a storage room, but putting up a wall was going to cost too much. With a curtain rod and 5 panels, we were able to section off a room. The curtains added a fun touch to the playroom in aqua and purple patterns.
My little girl has a ton of room to run around, have playdates, and we have reclaimed our living room!
