All three of my kids started the same eating habits from the time they started solids. They didn’t like simple purees and they mostly preferred foods with some texture. It scared me at first, because my oldest only had two teeth for nearly a year, but she learned to use her gums to mash the food. My little guy is following suit and he likes to have some texture to his food as well. He’s got a three bite rule- he will try anything but not everything makes it past three bites. If it does then it’s a success! There are a few things my little guy does love, and while I’ve been trying to expand his pallet, I have a few go-to meals up my sleeve. Fruits and grains are healthy, belly-filling foods I know my little guy will love. Gerber 3rd Foods with Lil’ Bits are great on their own – with puree and whole pieces to satisfy babies who love texture in their food, and flavors for even the pickiest of pallets.
My little guy loves the Apple and Blueberry variety of Gerber Lil’ Bits baby food, but I like to add oatmeal and milk to create a creamy, whole-food that will keep him sustained for a few hours. I use either baby-oatmeal cereal or quick-oats, depending on what I have on hand, and I try not to make it too thick because that might be a choking hazard. The sweet flavor, just-right bits, and creamy texture are all very appealing to him. I don’t have exact measurements for our recipe because it depends on how creamy your baby prefers their food. So I add about a teaspoon of oats and a teaspoon of milk or water, and if it is too thick or thin I adjust it accordingly.
