This past Mother’s Day was one of the best. Granted, I’ve only had 2 Mother’s Days but this one was extra special. I had just given birth to my second daughter days before, and I had my mom, grandmother, and mother in law all here to celebrate with a Mother’s Day dinner. It was nice having everyone together without the stress of running from one house to the other to make sure everyone gets their visit from the grandchildren. I felt very blessed and fortunate to have the families together celebrating what it is that makes this day so special. After viewing the Happy Mother’s Day Mom — You’re doing OK video, I took a step back and stopped being so hard on myself for not being able to do it all as a mom. Check it out, but I warn you, it’s a tear jerker!
Before I was a mom, I always looked for ways to give back to others and worked with my students to coordinate events in which everyone was a part in giving back to the community. I felt it was an important life lesson to my students, and now that I am a mom, I am trying my best to instill that in my kids. My toddler has come along with me on various trips to our local woman’s shelter to donate everyday necessities, and while she doesn’t understand exactly what we are doing, I know that these memories will stick with her. For example, when we are putting together boxes of items to give away, I explain to her that we are giving these items to people who don’t have them and need them. Each time we do this, she has gone into her room and grabbed a small toy to put in the box. She tells me it’s for the babies who don’t have toys and need them. This alone makes me so proud of her and I know I have already set a great example.
Johnson’s Babyhas teamed up with Save the Children to donate Baby “Care Kits” which include essentials for baby- including lotions, washes, shampoos, and diaper creams. These products are sent out to families by Save the Children who are in disaster stricken situations. Being that Johnson’s Baby is one of the leaders in baby toiletries, I couldn’t think of a better company to lead this cause. Not only are they donating care kits, but Johnson’s Baby is also funding for Child Friendly Spaces which provides moms and children a safe area to recover, while also providing a place for children to play. This helps the entire family bond, even after a disaster.
You can find our more information about this cause on the Johnson’s Baby Facebook page. As moms, we know how hard it is when we can’t give our children everything. When disaster strikes, caring for your children can become difficult and it’s nice to know there is someone there to help. Along with the previously mentioned donations, Johnson’s will also donate an additional $50,000 to Save the Children when they reach 500,000 views on their “Happy Mother’s Day, Mom — You’re Doing OK” video. Be sure to check out the video to help give back to this cause- all it takes is 1 click!
What were you especially thankful for this Mother’s Day?
