I’ve always led an on the go lifestyle, but when it comes to my kids I know I have to try to plan ahead. There are days that I drop off my daughters to school and have a few hours to come home and cuddle with my little guy, and then there are other days where I can be out from drop off to pick up.
Now that my little guy is more active and loves to be entertained, we started introducing fun, vibrant toys. He especially loves his mobile and brightly colored objects, but it’s not always easy to transport the toys he loves when we are going on trips to grandma’s house. Portable, easy to carry toys are on my radar, like the Play, Stow, Go toys from Playskool. The items in this lineup are easy to transport for caregivers and fun for little ones. I love that they have something for every developmental stage. Right now, we are into tummy time and looking at shapes, colors, and contrasts. The Fold’n Go Busy Elephant is just like our tummy time mats at home, but with all the fun packed into a smaller version. Once you are done playing with it, fold it up and store it in your diaper bag.
The next toy (in developmentally appropriate order) in the Playskool Play, Stow, Go lineup are the Stack ‘n Stow Cups. My girls always loved toys that nested, and it was fun watching their brains working as they tried to figure out which item goes next. This set is good for children ages 9 months and up, but my 3 year old still very much loves to stack and nest objects. I can see this item having a long usage period, which is a plus when it comes to kids’ toys.
For 12 months and up there is the Roll’n Gears Car. This car has it all with little faces that click into spots in the expandable car. once inside, they interlock and form gears that turn when baby plays with them. Such a fun and simple toy kids will learn hand-eye coordination with. Best part- all the pieces fold up inside for storage and portability. Throw it into the diaper bag and you are set!
Shape sorters seem like one of those must have items for all babies. I remember my mom had one for us, as well as my cousins, friends, and just about everyone with a baby. Shape sorters are another great toy for hand eye coordination and problem solving. The friendly kitty pops open to reveal slots for shapes. Once each shape makes it into their appropriate slot, you can close up kitty with all her pieces and store it, transport it, and keep all your pieces in one place!
The next toy has to be one of my favorites. While the Dressy Kids doll is appropriate for ages 2 and up, my 3 and 6 year old can benefit from various skills this doll can teach. Things like zipping, buckling, tying, and buttoning are taken for granted by adults. I hate to admit my 1st grader doesn’t know how to tie shoes because I never bought her laced sneakers. Velcro is easy for her to do on her own, and I don’t have to worry about tripping over laces, so she never learned how to tie shoes. Buttoning buttons is another skill that takes practice, and the Dressy Kids doll can help reinforce those life-skills.
