I’m not sure why, but I’ve been on an almond kick ever since I gave birth to my baby girl 2 months ago. I add almonds to just about everything- yogurt, cereal, ice cream, green beans, and chicken- yes, chicken: ever try almond crusted chicken? YUM! I’ll even keep a bowl of almonds in the living room to nosh on during the day, and it makes a healthy snack for my toddler too. I’ve craved them so much, I bought two bulk bags from Costco last month and I’m just about done with the second bag! I don’t know about other breastfeeding mamas, but I have very intense cravings when I am nursing- even worse than when I was pregnant!
So, when the Almond Breeze package arrived at my house from GreenMomsMeet, my hubby was not surprised. His exact reaction was “so you are drinking almonds too now?” Let me just tell you, almond milk does not taste much like almonds. I tried it for the first time a few years ago when I was still nursing my first baby. At that time I was craving chocolate milk but lactose intolerance kept me away. I wasn’t a fan of soy and Almond Breeze almond milk was in front of me in the supermarket, so I gave it a try. It was DELICIOUS! I tried both, the sweetened and unsweetened and I preferred the sweetened version better. Unfortunately my infant did not tolerate it well after it passed through my breastmilk and I was advised to stay away from it or have it in much smaller portions.
Just recently Almond Breeze launched their latest product: Almond Breeze Almondmilk Coconutmilk Blend. It seems that everyone has embraced coconut milk and Almond Breeze has jumped on that bandwagon to produce a rich milk that doesn’t have dairy, soy, lactose, or cholesterol, and does contain healthy fats. I tried both varieties, the sweetened and unsweetened. I wanted to love the unsweetened, especially since it had coconut it in, but I still preferred the sweetened variety better when it is used as a drink. When added to cereal I prefer the unsweetened. I love the Almondmilk Coconutmilk blend in my coffee, plain, and even with a swirl of chocolate syrup in it. It is the perfect snack and refreshing drink on a hot summer day. Add a splash of rum and you have yourself an almond joy concoction, and some much needed time out for mommy! You can say that Almond Breeze is versatile and can be used for more than just drinking as a milk product. Not only is it delicious, but you would be happy to know that it also is low in calories and has lots of vitamins and minerals!
