Did you know that more than 50 million Americans don’t know where there next meal will come from? Yes. In the United States. I can’t believe that number, considering all the waste I encounter on a daily basis. The worst part: people are hungry due to unemployment. Being personally affected by unemployment, this makes me very fortunate that food on our table, although limited, was never an issue.
People generally donate to food pantries around the holiday season, and by the springtime food banks are dry. To help with this hunger gap that occurs in the spring, Walmart is working with Feeding America and four of the top food brands in America: ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft, and Kelloggs in an initiative to fight hunger. This event will take place from Monday April 9 through April 30. People all over the nation can Vote to fight spring hunger with Walmart. Walmart will donate a total of $2 million to the 21 communities that receive the most support. $1 million will go to the winner and $50,000 to the 20 runners up. Winners will be announced May 1.
By purchasing specially marked items in Walmart from ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft, and Kelloggs, you can help donate meals to Feeding America or Action for Healthy Kids.
