After you find out you are pregnant, you are most likely overwhelmed with a slew of emotions and ideas when it comes to baby. Will you go with a gender-neutral theme? Do you like kid-like patterns do you prefer a more couture look? With all three of my kids I had three very different experiences. My first nursery was gender-neutral. I decided on “The Cow Jumped Over the Moon” theme, thinking if we had more than one baby in our small NYC apartment we would have more options in the room and could possibly have a girl and a boy in there. When my second was born and found out she was a girl as well, I went super-girlie and put up purple butterflies and flowers to celebrate having two little girls. For baby #3, we had moved and started over with a new nursery. Before he was conceived we painted the room grey so we would have more options with decor. I LOVE grey walls, which can be accented with gender-specific colors, or even white as an accent color. Having gone through this 3 times, I would love to share my experience with nursery decor.
#1 -Decide what colors you would love. Will you go with the traditional pink for girl and blue for boy, or would you branch out into the purple and green, or yellow and orange?
#2- Choose your furniture. This may be furniture your child will have for years down the line, so choose quality pieces that can grow with your child.
#3- Choose your accent colors. For example, the paint in our nursery is grey, but the accent color is teal and white. Grey walls, teal sheets, grey and teal bed skirt. The rug is teal, white, and grey. Keeping the colors simple means I can add other colors on the wall or in the room decor. The Playtex Diaper Genie Expressions in my son’s room can also be customized to match his theme. With 5 colorful sleeves to choose from, you would never even guess it was a pail for poop because it’s so pretty! Aside from the great color choices they offer for various nursery color schemes, The Playtex Diaper Genie Expressions also offers the odor protection you’ve come to expect from the Diaper Genie. With a double secure odor lock system and an easy empty feature, this is the prettiest and one of the most effective pieces of baby gear you will own! Each bag holds 50 newborn diapers and keeps odor out of your nursery. The sleeves are sold separately and can be changed as your family changes.
#4- Decorate! Our nursery isn’t very big, so we decorated with gorgeous decals. There are so many to choose from, we went with a “train” theme for our little guy. You can find nursery decals at your local baby shop like Babies R Us, Buy Buy Baby, Target, and even online shops. It’s the easiest way to customize a nursery and you can swap out styles as your child grows.
#5- Keep it safe! Crib bumpers, loose bedding, and furniture that can tip are all nursery hazards. Make sure to baby proof and keep your baby’s nursery a safe place for baby.
You can purchase the Playtex Baby Diaper Genie Expressions and refill bags can be purchased at Toys R Us, Target, and Amazon.
