Last year my oldest daughter was so into Animal Crossing for Nintendo 3DS, I bought her every single Animal Crossing Amiibo to start a collection. She would play the game for hours and on long car trips, but because I didn’t play it myself I didn’t quite understand what the excitement was about. Now that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available for the Nintendo Switch, I totally get the obsession! After I set up my character and learned a bit about the game, I found it to be quite relaxing as I explored my little island, set up camp, made new friends, and collected essentials.
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you can visit friends’ islands as well as have friends visit yours and see the progress everyone has made. Just like any other first-person role-playing game, you start with the bare necessities and have to work your way up, “creating an empire” if you will. I have yet to play Animal Crossings as a multiplayer, but I’m enjoying taking my time and learning about the game and the characters.
Animal Crossing has taught me to slow down. I’m so used to the busy NYC lifestyle, that now that I’m home with the kids and husband, I had to retrain myself to savor the small moments throughout the day, not rush through life from one task to the other, and to truly enjoy the more peaceful moments my day brings.
Animal Crossing New Horizons for the Nintendo Switch brought some much-needed distractions from our current “shelter in” orders in NYC. Being that we can’t leave the house unless we are in our own backyards or for basic necessities, we need to get creative in keeping the adults and the kids in the house busy. The Nintendo Switch has not only provided entertainment but has also filled the kid’s Phys Ed requirements as per their new homeschool regimen. Since NYC has been quite rainy lately, on the days we can’t go outside we put on one of the many Just Dance editions we’ve purchased through the years or have each of them work on a segment in the Nintendo Ring Fit Adventure game.
I would love to hear about your Animal Crossing adventures since I’m new to the game. Find me on Instagram @atimeout4mommy and comment on my Animal Crossing photo with your best tips! You can find out more about Animal Crossing: New Horizons by visiting Nintendo.
