6:30am……”Mommy, is it morning????”. My 4 year-old is always happy to get out of bed when we have an exciting day ahead of us. If it was a school day I’d be dragging him out of bed at 7:15 while he insists that he’s still tired and needs to rest more. But today we’re going to the beach with my in-laws who had just arrived from Italy the night before.
We’re new to the neighborhood so we’re still getting our bearings. And thankfully we have wonderful neighbors who told us about a town beach only about 10 minutes away from our house. I took a drive up there with my toddler a few days ago so I could get a parking sticker for the summer….and its truly amazing. A great playground for the kids, a pizza place a few feet away, picnic table, public restrooms, and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore….I was in heaven. If you need to find me this summer…..I’ll be here! I couldn’t wait to tell my husband about my find!
So, this morning I threw a few essentials in a bag, including HABA’s Big Sand Breakfast. I showed the colorful 9 piece breakfast molds to the kids earlier in the week and they were so excited to bring them to the beach. In fact, they had already been playing with them in the house almost every day! As soon as we landed on the sand the kids wanted to start making breakfast. They had their plate, toast mold, egg cup, strawberry mold, spoon and knife, plus a few others and were knee deep in sand and imaginary play. My boys (ages 4 and 3) were making each other meals, while my toddler was just having fun playing in the sand with various pieces from the set.
I love any toy that helps my kids with their imagination. After creating breakfast they were taking the egg holder, filling it with sand, and then a straw (that I had with me) and they were pretending it was a smoothie. After that…..different flavors of ice cream! And they were taking turns serving each other the sand ice cream creations. I think they sat in that sand occupied for over an hour! They didn’t even set foot on the play ground until it was almost time for lunch. So, I’m keeping my bag with towels, wipes, change of clothes, and Haba’s Big Sand Breakfast in the back of my car all summer. You never know when an impromptu trip to the beach or sand box may come up!
