The biggest problem we seem to face as new parents today is keeping harmful chemicals from leaching into our babies. Before my little girl was born, I looked into the problems with BPA and why it was banned. It seems that there is a lot of conflicting information out there, but I didn’t want to take any chances. When I was growing up, my family always emphasized that plastic was not good with heat or to eat from daily. This was before the BPA issues – and they seemed to be on the right track. If you leave water in a plastic bottle – it will start to smell after a while – but if you leave it in glass, there won’t be an odor. Easy concept- plastic should be avoided.
When it came to choosing baby bottles – there were way too many options for me. I wanted to go with plain glass bottles but I am so clumsy that I didn’t think they would last long in my hands. BornFree has these nifty glass cozys that wrap around the bottle to prevent it from shattering. I knew that I would still end up with plastic one way or another.
When my little girl was born, my friend who is a doctor purchased us a set of BornFree bottles. She told me that they were the best bottle to use. I believed what she said since, afetr all, she was the professional! I tried my little girl on BornFree and she did not take well to them – most likely because she was breastfed. We changed her bottles because I had to go back to work and needed bottle feeding to be an easy transition for her. Eventually, she got over her fussiness towards bottle feeding and we were able to reintroduce BornFree bottles again.
When we started introducing water into her diet, it was difficult to find bottles that were not made in China. We decided to purchase only 1 BornFree Twist and Pop Straw bottle to try out on my 1 year old. She did very well with it so we purchased a few more. I loved the convenience of the bottle – the straw hide away under the cap so that the straw is not exposure when she is not drinking. All the pieces come apart so there is easy cleaning. These are the only cups we use and have tried others – but my persnickety girl knows what she likes – and she seems to like the best! I love that they are 14oz – which is a great size for on the go, with limited refills.
I had the opportunity to work with BornFree and they sent me a giftbox that included Twist and Pop cups and a few binkies. We are past the binky stage, but I will be holding on to them for either baby #2 or as a gift for a new mom.
