We’ve been going on a lot of family vacations this summer, despite having a newborn. Sure, when we were new parents we feared every surface my first born came in contact with. Every time a child near her sneezed, sniffled, or coughed, I shuttered at my husband that this kid would get my child sick. I’m over it- children will get sick no matter what preventative measures you take. They will get dirty, come in contact with germs, and touch things you normally wouldn’t- like the walls in a public bathroom. Maybe this summer I became too lax in my thinking because after our first family getaway, my newborn ended up with a double eye infection. No biggie- we got her the right meds and soon she was feeling fine. Two weeks later, we take another weekend vacation and right before we packed up to come home, my toddler was running a 102 fever. It didn’t ruin our vacation since it was the last day and we were heading back anyway, but it did make her miserable and put us in fear that our 3 month old would get sick as well.
I do take precautionary measures: I make sure my toddler washes her hands each time we come home. I use hand sanitizer on her if we are out in public, and I make sure she takes her vitamins everyday. I’m not sure if it is a coincidence or not, but ever since I started giving her a multi vitamin, along with an Omega-3, she has gotten fewer colds.
In the past, her doctor always prescribed probiotics when she had a stomach virus or was on antibiotics. This time around I was prepared. Along with antibiotics for her double ear infection, I also gave her Culturelle for Kids. She was a little reluctant to take it, so I emptied a packet into a medicine cup, filled it up half way with water, and added a little Pedialyte. This flavored the mixture and made it pink, her favorite color, and she was more receptive to drinking it. Why do I choose to give my toddler Culturelle when she is on antibiotics? Simple: when you take antibiotics, it kills the healthy bacteria in your intestines. Probiotics help build these good bacteria up so that your body functions normally.
Culturelle is great for preventing illness also. By building up the flora in your intestines, it also strengthens your immune system, so Culturelle is a great choice for children and adults and comes in varieties appropriate for all ages. You can find Culturelle at your local drugstore.

Thanks for the great review on what sounds like a great product. Sounds like something we need to try out with my grandson and he gets ear infections often, even after he had tubes put in.
A few years ago, I had to have my son on a product like this. His immune system was weak.
I didn’t know doctors sometimes prescribed these when kids are on antibiotics. Interesting!
Anything that might help reduce the number of colds I am all for!
I’ve not heard of this before! Sounds interesting…thanks for sharing this!
I’ve heard about this but had never really thought about it boosting immune.
I haven’t heard of this before but I would love to try it. Nothing worse than being sick and feeling rotten!
I think I’ve heard of this, but didn’t know much about it. Thanks for sharing.
I need to pick up some of this for mine and let my mom know about it. We love to stay healthy (though who wouldn’t LOL)
We are big time probiotic users and actually purchase the Culturelle brand for the kids.
