If you are a Star Wars fan then this post is for you. We have some spoilers below, so turn away if you haven’t seen Rogue One yet (But really, who hasn’t!?) Last weekend we had an epic Twitter battle between The Empire and The Rebel Alliance. I was on The Empire team and had fun joining the dark side. We watched the movie on our Roku Stick after loading the movie code onto our Disney Movies Anywhere (DMA) account. If you haven’t used DMA and you love Disney Movies, I highly recommend downloading the app. You can stream all your favorite titles, and if you are purchasing a BluRay copy, you will also receive a code to use on DMA. All you purchased titles show up in your account and you can watch all your movies wherever you have internet access and the app! While we are on this topic, I should also tell you about why the Roku Stick has been a favorite in my household for two years. My girls use the Roku Stick in their room because we didn’t set up a cable box in there. The Roku Stick costs around $50 and you don’t have to pay a subscription fee or sign a contract. We have access to all their favorite networks and apps- like Disney Movies Anywhere. The Roku Stick makes any TV a Smart TV! Along with the Roku Stick and the movie, we got a fun gift package to celebrate Rogue One. Everyone in my family chose something they loved- I will be bringing the Star Wars Imperial Death Trooper Deluxe Backpack with us on our upcoming Disney trip. My son loved the light up Star Wars Tumbler, my girls got the Roku Stick for their room and my husband called dibs on the Empire Star Wars Mug
Here’s a recap on Rogue One:
Rogue One is the first Star Wars movie that takes place outside the main saga that we have been watching over the last 30 years. When A New Hope came out, one of the biggest questions was how did the Rebel Alliance get its hands on the Death Star plans in the first place? Rogue One gives us the story of how a small group of previously unknown characters came together to accomplish the impossible, stealing the plans from the Empire and helping the Rebels get their first major victory over the Emperor and his right hand man, Darth Vader.
This film was full of excitement and adventure from the start. It jumped from location to location and the action never let up. The other thing that made this movie special were the characters. Star Wars films have a long history of having great characters that you can relate to, and Rogue One does not disappoint. From Jyn Erso, who my daughters loved, to Cassian Andor and K-2SO, Rogue One was full of people you end up caring about and root for all the way till end of the film.
Rogue One is a welcome addition to the Star Wars family. It fits in nicely within the existing storyline, yet manages to etch out its own distinct niche in the overall film anthology. It was an exciting film from the start, and the final few minutes of the movie has rapidly become one of my favorite scenes in any Star Wars film!
Watching the movie while live-tweeting was quite the experience. It was like being in a movie theater and sharing your thoughts and quips with friends. The winning team in the Twitter party turned out to be TeamRebel. BOOOOO!!!
