Two months ago my husband and I resolved to each other we would get healthier by the end of June. We stopped eating out (except for 1 day each weekend) started eating smaller and more nutritious meals, and try to get out and active as much as possible. He’s even volunteered to coach our daughter’s sports teams while I leave the car at home and walk the kids to and from school. These seemingly small changes we made led to bigger health changes overall. He’s lost nearly 30 pounds and while I’m lagging behind him at only a 12 pound weight loss, I didn’t have the big goals that he had. While I wanted to eat healthier, I didn’t necessarily want to lose too much weight but rather, strengthen my body and mind. After checking in with my doctor at my annual visit, she said most of my aches and pains would subside if I worked out a little more to strengthen my muscles. I can’t disagree with her, when I was at the gym a few times a week I felt much better overall, but I wasn’t too happy with the hoity toity gym in my area. It was full of strength training buffs and made me feel like I had no place there, almost as if I was intimidated by the experienced people around me when all I really wanted was to feel better about myself. I remembered my experience at the Planet Fitness in our old neighborhood and realized there is no other gym like it.
Planet Fitness is for everyday people like me. The people who want to do a little something for themselves and understands the value of getting active for their overall health. What I loved most about Planet Fitness was the price. I paid $10 a month for the same service I would get at my local gym for.. gasp, $65 a month. The only difference? Planet Fitness was tailored for people like me. There’s a reason they call themselves the Judgement Free Zone® – because everyone is there for the same reason – to feel better.
Right now Planet Fitness has an amazing offer through May 12. For just a small enrollment fee of $5 and then $10 each month, you can get into your new groove. There’s no commitment and you can cancel your membership at any time. Find a club near you so you can get started right away (and before this deal is over!) So many Planet Fitness clubs are open 24/7 and offer a spacious locker room, friendly staff, and unlimited small-group fitness training.

Spokesperson: Brian Zehetner, Director of Health & Fitness at Planet Fitness has some fitness tips to share for new mothers.
- That first six weeks after pregnancy is primarily a time for healing, but you can also start to ease back into exercise. The most important thing is to find time to move. That’s it. No need to make it any more complicated than that. You don’t need to set some arbitrary deadline to achieve a particular goal. Just make some time for yourself and engage in an activity you love.
- If you find that setting aside time for yourself is a challenge, do something active with your baby. Something as simple as a walk outside could be just what the doctor ordered (literally)! There are also plenty of mommy and me classes that might be interesting to check out.
- Once you’re cleared by your physician for more rigorous exercise, you should be able to jump back into your previous workout program, albeit at a slightly lower intensity. It’s okay to work yourself back into shape gradually. And if you’re looking for a new fitness option, the small group training sessions at Planet Fitness may be the perfect fit. They’re fun, full-body workouts led by one of our certified trainers. And after using baby talk all day with the little one, you may find that hangin’ with some adults is a nice change of pace.
