My 7 year old is a natural born artist. It started with intricate Play Doh designs when she was 2 and by the time she was in pre-k, she was ready for an art class. The designs she came home with blew me away- dolphins, Palm trees, there was nothing this little girl couldn’t make. And while she wasn’t exactly painting like Bob Ross, the preschool version of her images were better than anything I could have ever made. Her 1st grade art teacher admired her abilities and suggested placing her in the after school art program. I’m still in awe of her work, because my husband and I can barely draw stick figures.
When Disney Art Academy came out for the Nintendo 3DS, I instantly knew it was a game with her interests in mind. Her dream when she grows up is to be an art teacher and work for Disney, so the game fits her to the T! I gave her some time alone with the game to get familiar with it. Usually I play a game with her at first, but now that she’s reading on her own it’s a lot easier for her to manage the screens.
Disney Art Academy teaches kids (and adults) how to draw their favorite Disney characters. You start off with Minnie or Mickey and can even customize the colors your use. The handy stylus makes drawing easy and smooth. I love that the game takes you step by step, so whatever you draw on the 3DS can be replicated on paper. It’s a great start for my budding artist! Since she’s a Nintendo Kid Reviewer, I put her to work for this one, and since it’s summer time I knew giving her some writing prompts would be a great way to keep her brain working. Below are the two questions I asked her, as well as her actual responses:
What did you like most about the game?
My favorite thing about Disney Art Academy was that you got to paint and draw Mickey and Minnie.
If you were telling your friends about this game, what would you say?
It is so much fun you should try it.
I guess you can say she cuts right to the chase! If you have a Disney fan who loves to draw, the Disney Art Academy would make a great addition to your collection of Nintendo 3DS games.
