There are so many baby items you can’t live without, and others you can do without. A nursing pillow is definitely one of those must have items, whether you choose to breastfeed or not. I didn’t realize how essential a nursing pillow would be until I had a c-section. Holding my baby was a challenge, and nursing her was even more difficult. Having a structured nursing pillow, not just a regular pillow, helped support my baby while I held her, and also brought her up to just the right level where she could nurse comfortably, both for me and for her.
I have tried various styles of nursing pillows- and I can see a use for each style there is out there. In the very beginning I prefer the nursing pillow that wraps around the belly and provides total support for mom and baby. These are great for propping up babies also and serve many uses. Then there are the other types of nursing pillows that I prefer once baby is a little bit bigger, around 6 weeks. The JJ Cole Collections Paisley nursing and feeding pillow is just the pillow I need at this point of nursing- I need something to support my arms while nursing my baby and this is the perfect pillow. It has a unique shape that is exclusive to JJ Cole Pillows and is contoured just right to fit under my forearm. It is a little thicker than other pillows out there, which ultimately has to do with personal preference for the person using it. My hubby uses it too when I pump milk and he feeds our baby girl.
Even though I preferred to use this pillow after my baby was a little bigger, doesn’t mean it can’t be used from the very beginning. The pillow is contoured so it does fit around your belly and will protect your incision if you have a c-section. I find this pillow to be the most helpful on mornings when I am in a hurry and I feed my baby and pump at the same time. The pillow is great for supporting my baby while I have a free hand to hold the breastpump. Now, I’m not the most coordinated person and have spilled milk plenty of times, but the removable pillow case can be tossed in the washing machine along with baby’s clothes.
So you may wonder why you need a nursing pillow even if you choose not to breastfeed- well, back and neck strain is a very real issue that new moms deal with. This is because the position they sit in to feed their babies may not be the most comfortable. If you have the right pillow to support you, then back and neck problems can be prevented.
My favorite feature on the JJ Cole Paisley nursing and feeding pillow is the carry handle. I love that I can easily transport the pillow from one room to the other while holding my baby, and about 10 other things that my toddler has me carry into the next room.
