Do you travel for the holidays? We generally do not travel too far for the holidays, as most of our family is here in NY. The farthest we’ve travelled when I was younger was probably New Jersey or Pennsylvania to visit extended family. Thankfully we’ve never had to take a plane ride anywhere for the holidays because I imagine that would be a little too hectic for me!
Preparing for holiday travel would be the same as any other travelling for my family. I would make sure to bring along all my car-sick prone toddler’s essentials, such as her favorite stuffed animal, Benadryl, a towel in case she feels queasy, and a change or two of clothes in case she REALLY gets sick!
My infant is a little trickier to pack. She’s so easy to transport but requires a lot more items, such as diapers, bottles, and baby food. I’m hoping she doesn’t have the car sickness curse that my toddler inherited. For now, she is very laid back in the car and enjoys the ride!
If you are planning holiday travel, make sure you are prepared for every member of the family, even if you aren’t travelling to far. Many stores are closed on Christmas day, so if you are unprepared, you are pretty much out of luck! Make sure you pack a change of clothes for everyone in the family. Keep children comfortable and cool in the car. I find that my kids are crankiest when they are hot or overdressed. Bring water and snacks for everyone. If you child gets car sick, keep them looking out of the front window, and don’t let them read or play with hand held gaming devices. Don’t let children eat too close to travel time. Allow about an hour for digestion, but don’t leave too close to the next meal, or you might find yourself stopping for food!
Do you have any holiday travel tips? I’d love to hear them!

that commercial is great
Drinks and snacks – key, key, key!!!!
We’re visiting my inlaws in Florida for Thanksgiving and will be driving a Kia Sorento.
That is such a nice car. I like your tips for travel- especially about kids that get car sick. My tip would be to plan for frequent stops to get out of the car and stretch and maybe burn off some energy for the kids. I always try to incorporate several stops so that we aren’t all trapped in the car for 6-8 hour stretches. I shoot for a stop every 4 hours.
I think the hamsters are so funny! I was seriously considering a Kia when we car shop again but I think we need a bit bigger SUV than they offer.
We’ll be driving down to Disneyland in December. It’s about a 6-hour drive for us. I make sure to pack EVERYTHING. It’s so hard for the kids to sit in their car seats for such a long stretch.
I love that commercial, too cute!
This is a smooth looking ride.
