I noticed something interesting in the past two years- many houses are sporting surveillance cameras outside their homes. I noticed this new trend even more after my husband and I started looking for a new intercom system to replace our old unit that came with our house. Shortly after, I witnessed 2 of my neighbors putting in a similar system, and as I walked around our new neighborhood with my girls, I counted quite a few houses with cameras. Did we make a mistake by moving here!? Is there something I don’t know?
A few days after we moved in, my brother said we should have passed wires for surveillance cameras when the walls were still open from renovations. This was my chance to find out why everyone was following this camera trend. He explained to me the obvious- cameras can help identify a burglar or trespasser, and even more importantly, a camera can be proof of what really happened when someone falls on your property and tries to sue you. This actually happened to a family member, so it’s a point that actually hits home.
Ok. I was convinced. An outdoor surveillance camera can be a valuable tool for many reasons. When Q-See asked if I would review one of their surveillance camera systems, I knew it would be a fitting opportunity. Yes, my walks were already closed and yes, holes would have to be drilled. But with strategic planning from a family friend, we were able to keep damage to a minimum when installing the cameras, and the holes that were made are barely noticeable once the camera is on place. A DVR is included with the Q-See system, where you can go back and look at footage. Overall, we are happy with our decision to install a camera outside our home. Living outside of the city, things can be quite boring and rather quiet compared to our old lives, but having the comfort of knowing our house is always monitored is a great thing.
