Finding the right baby monitor can be nerve wracking. Especially now that there are reports of people who have had their baby monitors tapped into, only to find that a stranger was able to see their baby. This is some creepy stuff, but you still want to be able to keep an eye on your little ones while they sleep. Although my kids are past the infancy stage, having a monitor is important to my hubby and I for 2 reasons: #1, I want to be able to go outside and lounge with friends or my husband in our backyard at night after the kiddos go to bed. I need to be able to see if they wake up, because I don’t want them to take the stairs down to find me. The second reason we like having a baby monitor on is so that if we do hear some stirring in their rooms, we don’t actually have to open the door and check in on them. Sometimes this actually wakes them up and then we end up having to bring them into bed with us or stay with them in their room until they fall back asleep. I can’t tell you how many times my girls have fallen out of their beds and I didn’t even know until the next morning!
We stopped using a monitor for a few months, but as I said above, now that the weather is nice enough to go outside, I want to be able to keep an eye on the kids. We’ve tried many baby monitors and have experience with quite a few brands. Some we love, and some we would love to improve. The VTech baby monitor was a favorite of ours in the past because it had soothing lullabies and a talk back feature so I could soothe my baby without going in her room, just long enough for me to come up the stairs to get her. After having a basic monitor with our first baby, these features were an improvement, but there was still something missing. Now that my youngest is able to walk out of her bed and towards her door, or to the other side of her room where the toys are, I would love to be able to turn the monitor and watch her to make sure she gets back into bed, without actually going in her room. The VTech VM333 has just about every feature my old VTech monitor was lacking- like the Pan/Tilt feature. I love that I can move the camera up to 270 degrees, with a touch of a button on the receiver. The new VTech monitor also zooms 2x, so you can zoom in on your little one to make sure their chest is rising and falling while they sleep. I can’t be the only parent who is concerned about SIDS, even well into toddlerhood. The VTech Baby video monitor gives me peace of mind.
Now, I know there have been articles that disagree with having a baby monitor because you end up watching your baby all night. I can tell you that with me, this isn’t the case. Okay, maybe with my first baby and for the first year, but after that I was too tired to stay up to watch her sleeping. I also love the idea of setting up a camera in the play room so that I can cook or do laundry while my girls are playing. You can also pair up more than one camera to a single monitor and have a split screen viewing. This is great when you have siblings in separate rooms.

I don’t know what I’d do without my video monitor! It’s been so helpful in regulating the temp in my daughter’s room and determining if she’s having a dream or is really upset.

This looks fabulous. We didn’t have video monitors when my kids were young, but it would provide more peace of mind.

Sometimes i wish we had a video monitor when my daughter was little, though her room was right next door to ours.

I like that it includes the temperature of the room, that’s helpful.

It absolutely amazes me how far the technology has come in the 10 years since I had my baby! This looks really cool.

I remember those days. The baby monitor really gave me peace of mind, as well as prevented a million treks down the hall “just to check.”
