In this post I will be talking about periods. So if you are not of the female species, you might want to X out of the screen or check out another post.
Before I start telling you about a new product I tried out, I should preface by telling you about my family’s habits. We stay away from chemicals in our food, personal care products, and cleaning products. When I started looking into cloth diapering my first baby, I came across menstrual cups and cloth feminine care products as well. I couldn’t stomach the thought of having to wash the cloth products (although I read it’s not that bad) but using a cup didn’t sound so bad. What intrigued me the most was that there were no chemicals in menstrual cups and they were generally made from silicone, which won’t leach harmful chemicals into your body.

So, I took the plunge. 4 years ago I got my first menstrual cup only to be left a little disappointed. I couldn’t use it because I couldn’t get it in properly. A year had passed after that failure and in that time I would read others’ experiences and how successful they were. The convenience alone was what made me try again. I could wear the cup up to 12 hours and most had fabulous reviews about non-leakage. I gave it another go, and was surprised that I could finally get it in! All I had to do was relax! So, for 3 years I have been successfully using a menstrual cup and I love it! My only gripe with my first cup was that it would leak, so I had to be very careful about my movement and having a back up method the first day or so. The best part about menstrual cups? You don’t feel them and there is no odor!

Then I met Sckoon cup. This cup was a total game changer. It’s so much softer than the previous cup I used, which took some getting use to. I had a hard time getting it open properly, but after a few tries it became much easier. I love the variety of colors to choose from, the fun cloth storage bag, and the shape of the Sckoon cup. It is flared out at the top, and slightly rounder than my last cup. The bigger air holes at the top of the cup are a lot easier to clean. All in all I love the Sckoon cup and most likely will not be looking for another cup to take its place. With my first cup I didn’t know what I was looking for or what I needed. The Sckoon cup helped me find just that, in a more comfortable, less rigid, and much more flexible cup.
