When it comes to incorporating technology into learning, I’ve become a big advocate. I see it with my own kids- they can learn so much from various learning apps and apply that knowledge to their daily lives. I monitor everything they play and limit screen time to 30 minute increments. There are some days they spend more time in front of their devices than I like to admit, but we all have our off days when we just want to relax and play an intriguing game. I’m all for it, as long as the content is age appropriate, and they can possibly learn something.
We have a few of our favorite apps, but kids do get bored easy and need fresh content regularly. The latest app we are testing out is Dino Tales from Kuato Games. My girls have been playing it for a few days now, and I feel my oldest, who is almost 6, understands and navigates the app easier than my 3 year old. My 6 year old is reading and able to follow the story line. She loves that she can navigate easily as a baby dinosaur. The guide, Dawin, tells her what she needs to do next and helps her if she gets stuck. He’s even there to answer any questions she may have.
You start off as an egg. Once the egg hatches, you are on your way to starting and completing missions as you explore your surroundings. Darwin remains in the corner if you need information on what to do next. This app is great for children working on their reading skills, reasoning skills, and more. As you play the game, a story emerges and children can take away a new understanding of the creatures that roamed the Earth before them.
Since you input your name and age at the beginning of the game, your unique game play experience is tailored to your skills with age-appropriate tasks and information. I personally love games like Dino Tales because children learn a lot through play, and they won’t even realize they are learning with this fun interactive app.
Dino Tales, and a similar app Safari Tales are both available on iOS and Android for $3.99 each.
A new one for my youngest who is also 6 and would like this one. Thanks for the info!
