Hubby and I have been dieting all summer long and it is only a few more weeks before we are going to be eating regular, non-Nutrisystem foods. I use to cook dinner for us at least 4-5 times a week, and then the rest of the days we would either be at family’s homes for dinner or order take out. I considered myself to cook very healthy – I never fry foods and I rarely use any type of breading. I try to feed my family mostly organic foods and lean meats. We also mainly eat a Meditteranean diet, however we definitely had a bad case of portion distortion!
I decided to come up with a meal plan to get us on a regular schedule for dinner. I feel that a meal plan would help us eat healthier foods that are on sale and we can maintain a specific budget. My plan is to work out weekly meals from foods that are on sale at our local grocery store. My goal is to have healthy, balanced dinners for at least 5-6 days a week and only go shopping once a week.
Have you ever tried anything like this before? Was it successful? Do you have any pointers for me?
Yes, I try to meal plan. I usually do my grocery shopping on Wednesday, so on Tuesday night, I sit down and figure what we are going to eat the next week. I have found that by doing this, I tend to not buy as many prepared items and I also know the night before if I need to soak beans or make pizza dough for the next nights dinner and plan it in my day. I have also made a double portion of a meal and put half in the freezer for days when I am frazzled or don’t feel like cooking.
This email inspired me to put my hubby on a diet. When I was pregnant with my son, I gained some weight and my husband took the opportunity to put on baby weight of his own. Two years later, I had lost the baby weight, but he hadn’t. I was pregnant again and gaining the weight and so was he, so now he has the weight of two pregnancies and I have managed to lose the weight plus one pound. I am still trying to lose weight, but not nearly as much as he needs. Exercise is hard because we have two kids and he works=A LOT! Anyone who has any extra tips will be welcomed!
