Last month I told you about my sleep issues, and how nearly 4 million Americans suffer along with me. I know there are things I can do to help me get more shut eye, and I’ve been practicing these habits on most nights.
I’m trying to regain my activity level after having a baby two months ago. The entire pregnancy slowed me down tremendously, as did birth, but now I’m ready to get active again and get my body to the place it should be. By exercising more, specifically early in the day, I can possibly strengthen my circadian rhythm and train my body to become sleepy at the appropriate time.
I’m trying to relax more. I know, it sounds silly considering I have three kids under 6 at home, but it’s possible. At night I like to read a book until my eyes are heavy with sleep. I just have to hope the baby won’t wake up as soon as I close my eyes. If you have time, a warm bath or cup of decaf tea can also help you unwind and relax before bed time.
One thing I’m guilty of- using my phone before bed. I know I’m not alone, because at this time I’m usually catching up with friends, weeding through emails, or playing a game on my phone. I can’t help it, this is the only me time I get throughout the day. The light from devices like phones and tablets keep your brain awake, preventing the onset of sleep. It’s good to get all your texts, emails, and anything else on your tablet and phone done about an hour before you go to sleep.
I will be trying some of these tactics to help myself relax before bedtime and get a better night’s sleep. If you also have difficulty falling asleep, I invite you to join me in these exercises. I will be updating with my results next month and would love to hear yours too! To learn more about how to achieve a full, uninterrupted night’s sleep visit Wanttosleepmore.com

I have the same issues as you and also guilty of looking at my phone before bed. That is usually when I get home from work and catch up on things that have gone on. Maybe I need to check in the mornings
