Making the Playroom a Little Cozier With a Mohawk Rug (Giveaway!)

My husband wasn’t too thrilled when I asked him to change the foyer from an office to a playroom. He wasn’t too happy when I started dismantling the desk, nor was he happy when the office supplies seemed to make their way into the closet to make room for toys. It was time to give the girls their own space to play and reclaim my living room. Our foyer is the size of a bedroom, but is not closed off in a way that would make it a suitable bedroom for anyone, so by default it became our office. As our living room was taken over by toys, it was time to do some rearranging.

My girls are happy having a room in the house just for them and their toys, but after everything was in place, I felt that the room was lacking something. Since this room has 5 windows, it can get a bit chilly during the winter, even with the heat on. My infant is just starting to learn to walk, and I prefer her to be barefoot as she learns to use her feet properly. Since the floor is cold, I felt bad keeping her barefoot, and decided it was time for an area rug. This would also help cushion her fall if she lost her balance while learning to walk.

I headed over to Mohawk to see their selection of rugs. I knew about Mohawk area rugs from their large selection at Bed Bath and Beyond. Finding the right rug was a challenge, due to the nature of the room. I wanted to keep the rug fun for a playroom, but neutral since it would be at the entrance of our home. My husband brought up a great point that we didn’t want people walking in the house to step on the rug with their shoes, so we had to be careful with what size we got, ensuring it wouldn’t take up too much room in the walkway.

I found a gorgeous light blue rug I fell in love with, but it was not available in a 5 x 7 size we needed, so we went for a simple beige rug with leaves on it called the Silhoette Shell. Although it is not brightly colored or adorned with familiar characters, both my daughters love the new rug in their playroom. My toddler calls it her magic carpet, and my infant loves the feel of the rug and tracing her fingers over the leaves.
