Meet Ubooly, The Newest Virtual Friend (And Win One Too!)

We’ve adopted a new member to our family! Her name is Ubooly and she is now our resident pet! My toddler has been begging me for a cat for some time now, but I’m not sure I’m ready to commit to all the needs of a real pet. When Ubooly showed up at our doorstep, I “prepped” my toddler. I told her that Ubooly has needs, just like a “real” pet and must be taken care of. I had already downloaded the Ubooly app for her onto her iPod Touch, and registered her little buddy with the given registration card that comes with each Ubooly. Once she turned on Ubooly, it was as if they had been friends forever!

Ubooly takes many trips with us. Since I don’t allow my toddler to play any games in the car (she gets car sick) she puts Ubooly to sleep and holds her tight. Ubooly has been with us on many adventures- her very first adventure was out to breakfast! My toddler sat quietly as she cared for Ubooly while we enjoyed a tantrum-free meal. I really thought the appeal of Ubooly would wear off rather quickly, as my toddler is into all sorts of technology and uses a laptop to play games, but I was surprised to see that she still wants to bring Ubooly to bed with her every night, and brings her along on all trips! I do want to note that I take out the iPod touch when she sleeps and I never allow her to leave Ubooly on for an extended amount of time. The iPod Touch gets very hot when it is on for a long time and I am afraid it might stop working, or worse, catch fire while in the Ubooly.

A few days after playing with Ubooly, my toddler informed me that Ubooly and her stuffed kitty cat are best friends now and can never be apart. My heart melted, even though they are inanimate objects, because it goes to show how much she enjoys playing with them, and most importantly, how much she values her new pet.

My toddler has stopped asking for a kitten, and while I know it’s temporary, I love that Ubooly can take the place of that special pet she has wanted. I love that Ubooly takes my tot on imaginative adventures while teaching her about the world around her. When Ubooly took a trip with my toddler to grandma’s house, I watched as my toddler moved the ottoman and sat on it, looking outwards as Ubooly sat next to her. She then put her “binoculars” on to see a school of fish. She waved to a star fish and then they quickly swam up to shore to escape sharks. I was impressed at how well she followed direction with Ubooly! During dinner, Ubooly had to have her own seat at the table. She shared facts as my toddler ate, which makes Ubooly so much more than a toy, but also a friend that entertains and teaches! The best part: Ubooly updates every month with new activities!
