“Mommy, can we go to the moviiiiiieeeesssss?” my 4 year-old asks. I respond, “well, maybe Grandma and Grandpa can take you while we have our open house.” My husband and I were selling our house about a year ago and we relied heavily on my parents to help with the kids. The movie “Brave” was playing and I thought it was a great opportunity to get the kids out of the house while watching a movie with a great message about bravery.
Fast forward to one year later. I picked up my boys from school and told them that we had a new toy in the house, but warned them that all three kids had to share. When they walked in the den, they saw that I had the Merida doll with her horse Angus by Tollytots sitting on our coffee table. Although I have two boys they were both pretty excited about the big box waiting to be opened! And my toddler, although she hasn’t seen the movie, grabbed Merida as soon as I released her from her package and toddled away with her. My boys were more interested in playing with Angus anyway.
The kids had great adventures with their new toy. The Merida doll has posable arms and legs which pairs well with my kids imaginative play. They would have her climb up on Angus and battle various bad guys around the house. My mom also had curly hair so sometimes they would pretend that Merida was Grandma! My daughter also kept trying to put Angus on one of our various ride-on toys and push him around the room. My 3 year-old loves Angus so much that he insisted he be allowed to bring him to a play date. I said, “Angus is so big….why don’t we find something a little smaller to bring in the car?” His response (in a horse neighing style), “don’t say noooooo…..I want to goooooo……” How could I say no? He’s been toting his trusty steed with him everywhere ever since.
I loved seeing how these figures by Tollytots sparked thier imagination and creativity. My girls are older (9 & 7) but they both really enjoyed Brave and I think they would each have a great time playing with these figures as well.
