My hubby and I have gotten into a rut with eating. We have both been so busy since September, he is a teacher and taking graduate courses, and I just completed my graduate program! (WooHoo!) We both noticed the weight packing on the past few months and decided that we had to do something about it. I always cook healthy meals (when we aren’t ordering in-which has been way too often lately.) We both have the same problem: grazing. We will reach for the first thing in front of us to eat and if that isn’t satisfying enough, we will keep eating until we are satisfied. We were both also raised in a family where you had to clean your plate because “there are so many people starving around the world.” This message was so ingrained in my head that if you placed something in my plate, I HAD to eat it even if I was full.
The people over at Nutrisystem are amazing! They have sponsored a 4 month program for my hubby and I! We decided to make it a friendly competition between us, but it actually turned out to be more of a camaraderie instead. We started on Monday and while it has only been a week, we both had moments where we needed to motivate each other into sticking with the program.
I’m going to tell you how I felt on Nutrisystem this first week, and he will be writing a separate post on how he feels. I hope we can help you get a true understanding of the program from both the male and female, working and stay at home mom perspective!
We both weighed in on Sunday before beginning our journey.
The first day was the hardest for me. I am not use to eating breakfast in the morning and I had to force my Nutrisystem entrée, fruit, and dairy down. I found that after an hour I was really hungry, and drank water to fill myself up. This worked and by Wednesday i already knew that I had to eat slower and spread out my foods for lunch. I had my entrée and waited about a half hour before eating the rest of my add-in foods.
Keeping up with water was the easiest part of the day, until Thursday when I just couldn’t get all that water down. On Friday I had a brunch with friends planned. I knew it was too soon to weigh myself, but I wanted to know what kind of damage I would have done if I over did it at this event. I was already down 4 pounds! On my way over to my friends, I had to have a pep talk with myself. I wondered WHY food provided “enjoyment” for me. Why couldn’t I have a good time without food? I know that food is the center of social gatherings throughout history. Why couldn’t I limit myself to smaller portions?
With this in my mind, I was able to satisfy my taste buds with non-Nutrisystem foods and eat smaller portions. I didn’t need to clear a plate to feel satisfied and I feel great about my decisions.
I have heard that it is common to lose a lot of weight the first week, but not to expect that kind of weight loss weekly. I already feel that I am no longer bloated and I am fully satisfied at each meal. I like the food so far, the frozen entrées are amazing and I am actually shocked that they taste so good!
I’ll have some pics of the food to share with you soon!
Monday Weigh in: Down 6 pounds!
