Living in the city, there aren’t too many opportunities to play in a grassy area and kick a ball around – but we have managed to find plenty of outdoor activities to keep our family occupied in our side-yard (which is concrete!) My little girl loves to create pictures with chalk and enjoys blowing bubbles. We even got her a little play house to have some fun in during the warmer months. Finding things to do hasn’t really been difficult, but it would be nice to have an area where my daughter can play freely in a grassy area without having to worry about scraped knees. so often times, it’s off to the park for us!
I find it important to take kids outdoors whenever possible. Whether they are preschool age or school age, children need plenty of free play time with fresh air. I believe this is true in the winter months also – just dress well for the occasion! Clorox is running their Clorox2 Play 2Day Pledge, where you can sign up and take the pledge to play outside. This is not only good for your kids to get in the much needed vitamin D, but it is also important for parents to get outside also and take time to relax and spend time with the family! We have all heard of family night in, take a family afternoon out!
Some fun things you can do with your family: head on over to the park. This is a great place for children of all ages to get some energy out of their systems. From swings to basketball courts, there is something for everyone. I never seemed to grow out of the swing stage, so having a toddler makes the park fun because she loves the swings and the slides. The days that we go to the park, I find that she is much happier, has less tantrums, eats better, and sleeps longer. There is no coincidence that active play has a lot to do with overall well being for everyone!
What are some of your favorite outdoor family activities to do? Don’t forget to take the Clorox2 Play 2Day Pledge and challenge yourself to get out as much as possible with your kids! Everyone will thank you!
