Laundry detergent is laundry detergent is laundry detergent… right? It all promises to clean your clothes, maybe even make them smell good, and perhaps save you a buck or two. My mom always bought Purex detergent and I didn’t know any different, so when I moved out, that’s all I used. I loved that there were so many varieties to choose from, including a Free and Clear version that cost a fraction of the price compared with baby detergents.
One day, I found an awesome sale on the “expensive” brand and stocked up. When I say stocked up, I mean I filled my laundry room with this stuff. It was more expensive so it had to be good. Boy, was I WRONG! I still hear my know it all mom saying “I don’t buy the expensive stuff… it doesn’t work well!” Fine, she was right. But I learned my lesson and I learned the hard way. After using the expensive brand a few times, I broke out in hives. My clothes developed this funky smell due to detergent build up, and I was not happy! I went back to my trusty Purex and after a few runs with Purex with Zout, the funk was gone and I was much happier.
It amazes me how detergent samples always show up on laundry day. Maybe that’s because I find that with a messy toddler and cloth diapers, I’m doing laundry nearly every day. I received a sample of Purex’s (New and Improved) Triple Action formula. I find it very similar to Purex with Zout and it leaves my clothes feeling and smelling clean, plus let’s not forget it is about half the price of those other “expensive” brands! Purex detergent is great for all washing machines, including High Efficiency (HE) machines!
I have used almost every variety of Purex detergent and I am please with the entire line. If you aren’t already using Purex, I challenge you to spend a few, yes, just a few bucks and switch brands for a few loads of laundry. Your clothes and your wallet will thank you!
