My toddler LOVES to take a bath. She will willingly jump in the bathtub with her clothes on, she loves it so much! She loves to have her own time to play with her bath toys and pretend while she splashes away. If she is having an off day with tantrums and tears, I know the one thing that will calm her down is a warm bath. Her joy wears off when she sees me coming near her with a wash cloth. She begs me not to clean her, knowing that I will wash her hair. She doesn’t mind so much the washing as much as the rinsing part, and I have to just deal with her tears as I wash away the soap. I feel bad doing this, but it is the only way sometimes.
Just recently I noticed her scalp started to become very irritated. I am still using baby body/hair wash on her, and I didn’t know if maybe it just wasn’t cutting it anymore. Another thought that crossed my mind was that perhaps in her screaming fits, I wasn’t able to wash away all the soap, which may have caused her scalp to become flaky. I consulted with my beautician friend who suggested a mild conditioner made for babies. This was easy, I already had one on hand and tried it for a few weeks. I didn’t notice much of a difference after I made sure all the soap was washed away and even used leave in conditioner. I needed to find a shampoo and conditioner that was appropriate for toddlers. The only problem with that is I’m not a fan of parabens and harsh chemicals. As a matter of fact, I have NEVER used any bath and body products on my toddler that contain any of these ingredients. I am willing to spend a few extra dollars to keep these chemicals away from her.
I already knew that Earth’s Best had their own line of skin care products because I always had their J.A.S.O.N. travel kit stashed away in my car and in my diaper bag which includes diaper rash cream, body lotion, body wash, and more. These always came in handy for mysterious diaper rashes that appeared out of nowhere, and impromptu bath time at grandma’s house. I never knew that Earth’s Best also had a toddler line of shampoo and conditioner! When my latest package of Earth’s Best goodies arrived, my toddler grabbed the bottle of Earth’s Best Tangle Taming Shampoo and said “this one’s mine!” I explained to her that EVERYTHING in the box was hers, but she argued that all she wanted was the shampoo. I used this as an opportunity for bath time and once again, as she saw me approach with the wash cloth she squirmed. I told her that I would be using her special new shampoo, and she did not once shed a tear! Not only did she not complain, she commented on the yummy smell from the shampoo!
Since she has a dry scalp I usually use a conditioner, but since I didn’t have the Earth’s Best Tot conditioner on hand, I decided to just leave her without conditioner and see if this “detangling” shampoo would work for her long, thick locks. Sure enough it did everything it promised to do (right on the label) and we are both very pleased with the results! There are so many more bath and body products for infants and toddlers in the Earth’s Best line, check them out here!
