Now that both my girls are at a good age for the movie theater, we’ve been on the lookout for the next best children’s flick. When my oldest mentioned Ratchet & Clank from a recent trailer she saw, it brought back memories of my cousin playing the Ratchet and Clank video game a decade ago. I’ve always loved when familiar characters from my younger days make a comeback so my kids can get a glimpse of my childhood and we can have a common connection.
Ratchet is a cat-like alien (a Lombax) who is stuck working as a mechanic on a desolate planet. His dream is to work with a team of Galactic Rangers to protect the galaxy. When Ratchet first tries to join the Galactic Rangers, he is turned away by his idol Captain Qwark, but fate would have other plans for him when he meets Clank. Clank is a warbot who was rejected immediately upon his creation by an evil villain, who planned to use these robots to wipe out the Galactic Rangers. Ratchet, with his big dreams and impulsive nature and Clank with his book smarts form a strong bond. Together, this unlikely duo join forces to become the next set of Galactic Rangers and help defeat the evil Dr. Nefarious and Chairman Drek.
The movie was great for my almost-7-year-old. In short, Ratchet & Clank taught lessons of teamwork and not letting go of your dreams. My oldest daughter especially loved the story line and the characters she met along the way. My 4 year old enjoyed the various gadgets employed by the Galactic Rangers in their battles with Chairman Drek.
Ratchet & Clank is a great family movie, IN THEATERS FRIDAY. There was a ton of action and adventure for the kids and plenty of humor parents would enjoy as well.
