Even if you don’t know who or what they are, I’m sure you have heard of Skylanders! I was first introduced to them at the NY Toy Fair last year, and haven’t stopped hearing of them since. Just last month, Activision has released their latest: Skylanders Giants, just in time for the holiday season. I can tell you now, this is already a hot item on every kid’s wish list! Even my toddler, who LOVES video games but isn’t quite coordinated for Skylanders Giants loves that she can bring her little Skylanders “toys” to life on the big screen. It’s no wonder why kids and adults alike are going bonkers over the Skylanders craze! It is a fun game that everyone enjoys!
See, this is how it works: Your Skylanders Giants starter kit includes the game, the portal, and three superhero-like characters. The characters are actually collectibles and there are 48 figures to collect. Each figure comes to life on your TV when placed on the portal. You can play with each character and they have their own unique abilities. Of course, just as any other hero-type of game, there are villains you are battling and a basic objective to rule the world.
Skylanders giants is great for kids 6+ and is rated for Everyone 10 and older, making it a great holiday gift and at the top of many children’s (and adults’) wish list this year. You can purchase it wherever video games are sold, including Amazon for $75. If you already own the portal from the previous Skylanders game, all you would need to purchase is the portal owner’s pack for $60. Additional Skylanders figures can also be purchased separately, and believe me, once you start collecting, you won’t be able to stop unless you have them all!
Not only can you play with Skylanders Giants on your Wii, Xbox 360, and Nintendo DS, but there is also FREE online virtual world called Skylanders Universe– which is a safe environment where kids can explore and play fun activities. Check it out with your kids!

I love that it features and includes actual characters. That would certainly get my children more involved!
