I’ve heard of augmented reality, but I still hadn’t check it out yet. I figured with the changes in how kids learn, and their dependency on technology, it was time to break the ice and check out the latest in learning trends. If you haven’t seen them yet, learning cards work with your smart devices, such as iPhones, iPods, iPads, and even with the camera on your computer! They are a great way to bring information to life and make a real-world connection that will help your children learn.
I headed to Apple.com where I found two available sets of Cypher Entertainment cards: Letters and Numbers. Initially I thought $30 might be a lot, but after actually trying the cards, my opinion quickly changed. I should also mention that you can get free shipping on these cards, or pick them up at your local Apple Store when you order them online. My toddler has known her letters from the time she was a little over a year, and has gotten better at her numbers after starting preschool. Since she knew her letters, I was hoping I can teach her sounds the letters make, but it doesn’t seem like she is grasping that information as easily. This was my favorite feature of the Cypher Cards- When a letter card is scanned onto the app, the characters tell you what the letter is, what sounds it makes, and brings 3D examples that pop out of the screen, which start with that letter. I feel that she is on her way to understanding the sounds letters make and may provide her with the foundations for reading.
As a teacher, I feel that Cypher Kids Club cards are a great tool to enhance learning and teach information in a way that is easy for children to understand. You can order Cypher on Apple.com as well as check out the app, plus be sure to check out my Google+ page to see more pictures and how the cards are used! Cypher Kids Club learning cards make a great gift this holiday season, so be sure to check them out. You can find out more by visiting the Cypher website, and by connecting with them on Twitter and Facebook.
