Summer travels are in full swing and we just got back from a quick getaway down south. As we are gearing up for another mini-trip, my oldest and middle daughter always make sure to bring along their Nintendo 3DS consoles to keep themselves occupied. It reminds me so much of when I was a kid and traveled with my Gameboy! The latest game in our rotation is called Ever Oasis and has an interesting game play where you are one person building up a community with other people. My oldest Nintendo Kid Reviewer is at a perfect age where she can read through the dialogues and understand what is going on in the game. Her initial reaction was that the game was slow-moving, but as she got further into the game and saw purpose, she instantly became hooked and couldn’t get enough of growing her village. Here is her take on Ever Oasis for Nintendo 3DS:
“It’s a game where there is Chaos going around and it is devouring the Oasis. It ate all the people of the Oasis except for the main character (me) and the water goddess. The water goddess asks me to grow the village Oasis and make it bigger than it was before so the Chaos doesn’t attack again. As you play the game, you meet new people who either want to purchase supplies from you or want to move into your village. Each person who joins your village has a job and can help build up your community. You find supplies to put in your shops by exploring the Oasis, and then you can sell them or trade with other villagers.”
It sounded interesting so I decided to try it out myself one evening after she went to bed. It’s the only time I can pry the Nintendo 3DS out of her hands long enough that I can get some game play in myself! This RPG-style game is similar to other games I’ve played in the past where you are in control of the growth of the population by walking around and getting to know each part of the game. In my own experience, RPG gameplay is for more advanced players and Ever Oasis is best for independent readers since there is much to learn about the game by being able to read dialogues.
