This post and party were sponsored by ACT Kids Toothpaste but all thoughts and opinions are my own
Teaching our kids about dental hygiene has always been an easy topic in our home. My girls started brushing their teeth from the time their first teeth sprouted, and it’s something they enjoyed as babies and has developed into one of their best habits now that they are big kids. There’s a running joke that my middle child will grow up to be a dentist because she will walk around brushing her teeth at the most random moments, and instead of discouraging her, we redirect her into the bathroom so she can brush her teeth effectively and in the right setting.
However, many moms don’t have future dentists in their homes. A recent survey found that more than half of moms (56%) say they struggle with getting their kid(s) to brush their teeth every day and even more (69%) say they wish getting their kid(s) to brush their teeth was easier. In fact, 52% of moms say they would give up their “me time” for a month if it meant they never had to battle with their kid(s) again to get them to brush their teeth.*
My children were delighted when we were chosen to host an ACT party to introduce all her friends to fun ACT oral care products featuring one of their favorite superheroes- Batman! If you remember her superhero birthday party last year then you know all the kids around us are obsessed with superheroes these days, so if that inspires them to be better tooth-brushers, then so be it!
To enjoy this gorgeous spring weather, we invited our closest friends to our home for a pizza playdate. After the kids ate their lunch, one of my closest friends, who happens to be a dental hygienist, led the kids on an educational journey about the importance of taking care of baby teeth and adult teeth. She explained why we should choose our snacks wisely, like biting into a juicy apple as opposed to a lollipop, and why we should brush twice a day, for about 1-2 minutes each time. She explained the proper procedure for loose baby teeth and even explained the purpose of the tooth fairy.
The kids grouped off into pairs and played a game of memory and then eagerly burned off some energy running around in the yard chasing bubbles. They mimicked a lot of what they learned, like repeating constantly that lollipops were bad and fruit was better for your teeth. I can only hope the knowledge they gained from this fun session will be ingrained in their minds, even though we all know those lollipops are mighty tempting!
Each child received a goody bag with tooth-shaped erasers, ACT Kids Toothpaste, a toothbrush, and a fun dental timer to ensure they are brushing for the recommended amount of time. ACT Kids Toothpaste is now available for kids ages 2 years and older in both bubble gum and fruit punch flavors. It is available at a variety of retail locations, including select Walmart, Walgreens, and Target locations.

*This survey was sponsored by Sanofi Consumer Healthcare and conducted online using Toluna’s QuickSurveys methodology between February 13, 2017 and February 14, 2017 among 1,150 moms with children between the ages of two and 12 in the USA. Respondents for Toluna QuickSurveys are selected from among those who have agreed to participate in Toluna surveys.
Toluna’s SmartSelectTM methodology was used to promote sample representativeness. SmartSelect relies on statistical matching rather than probability sampling to select survey respondents, based on demographic, attitudinal and behavioral characteristics that match those of the target population. Figures for age, gender, region, race/ethnicity, education and income are also weighted to bring them into line with their actual proportions within the population. Because the sample is based on those who agreed to participate in Toluna surveys, no estimates of theoretical sampling error can be calculated.
